OPTIMUS Approach
To bring out the best in people and organizations, OPTIMUS follows a simple and effective approach, applied to business goals. First, OPTIMUS accepts and assesses the current performance of a person or organization, identifies the elements of success, and builds on that success. In the second step, OPTIMUS and the person or organization collectively identifies where the person or organization wants to be, which either emerges internally or is assigned externally. Third, a pragmatic action plan is developed by OPTIMUS and the person or organization to accomplish their objectives. The fourth step is to work the action plan supported by continual feedback and guidance to ensure desired outcome. OPTIMUS commits to the paradox of maintaining an unwavering focus on success, regardless of the challenges, while simultaneously faces every influence – positive or negative – to the process.
What differentiates the OPTIMUS approach from other approaches is its focus on the underlying or root causes contributing to the current performance of a person or organization. OPTIMUS understands the power in distinguishing between cause-and-effect or symptom-and-problem. OPTIMUS chooses to address performance at the causal or problem level.
INTENTIONS -> THOUGHTS -> FEELINGS -> WORDS -> ACTIONS -> OUTCOMES
CAUSE -> CAUSE -> EFFECT -> EFFECT -> EFFECT -> EFFECT
OPTIMUS purposefully spends time and attention at the “intentions” and “thoughts” levels knowing that the intention and thinking of a person or organization is the cause or basis for their decision-making, feelings (energy), words and actions. All levels contribute to the success or failure of the intended outcome or objective. When faced with failure, leadership typically reflects; What were we thinking? While working toward the stated objective, OPTIMUS asks continually; What are we thinking? What is our intent? How is what we are thinking, feeling, saying, and doing getting us to the intended objective or outcome?
